If you have been watching my socials, you will see that I got my first set of wheels in Portugal… the cutest little electric scooter. Gosh it has been so much fun and a bit scary too. It is new for me to drive on the right side of the road and facing the roundabouts and turning left is a different headspace completely but it is getting easier each time I go out.
After navigating my art show shipping and going up and down to the UPS office with parcels, I was thoroughly burnt out from my on foot commuting. Although the walking has completely changed my life and body… navigating it in the extreme heat, the far distances and with weighted parcels - I felt done.
I needed some help to get around and Ubers weren’t the solution... navigating that in summer is near impossible.
In the meantime, I am busy trying to get my Portuguese drivers licence and I’m still in process with that and I didn’t want to rush into anything with so much uncertainty around the fuel and energy crisis and potentially, an economic crisis. I wanted to be a little prudent about getting a vehicle. I have been using public transport and my legs now for almost two years and I have loved having access to trains the way I do and I have loved every single footfall. It has been so beautiful.
This will obviously continue, now just with a little bit of help from my new red friend.
